![]() Company Profile For over 40 years Soil Instruments Ltd has been one of the world’s leading manufacturers of Geotechnical Instruments. Our equipment has been used to monitor projects such as dams, tunnels, landslides, deep excavations, roads and railways in nearly every country around the globe. The company was formed in 1962 in response to a need for equipment to monitor in-situ pore pressures in a number of earthfill dams built in the 1800’s that were beginning to show signs of failure. As a result of this work, Soil Instruments became involved with the monitoring of a number of large dams being designed by UK consultants in countries such as Hong Kong, Pakistan, Argentina, Nigeria and Malaysia. During the 1970’s the need for the Company’s instrumentation grew with the rapid expansion of highway construction in the UK, followed in the 1980’s and 1990’s by a number of major underground railway projects in Hong Kong, Singapore and London. With the acquisition of Soil Instruments by ITM (Instrumentation, Testing and Monitoring) Ltd in 2002, the company has been strengthened by the commitment to increase its use of modern technologies; these include Solid State Transducers, Wireless Sensor data transmission and web-based data acquisition software.
