![]() Digital Hydrostatic Profile Gauge The Hydrostatic Profile Gauge comprises a portable probe, which can be drawn through an access tube buried beneath an embankment or structure. Vertical displacement of the buried tube due to settlement or heave is detected by the probe and readout, which provides information to enable processing of profile plots. The system incorporates a gas filled probe containing a flexible bladder, which is connected by a flexible tube to an electric differential pressure transducer mounted on the tube drum. The flexible tube and bladder are filled with de-aired antifreeze solution. A second tube equalises the gas pressure in the probe and on the opposite side of the differential pressure transducer diaphragm. The two tubes are sheathed together to form a single coilable assembly. The Hydrostatic Profile Gauge will operate within the range of +or - 3.5 metres relative to a datum. Changes in level of the probe with respect to the datum, results in a pressure change at the transducer which is indicated as an elevation change on the settlement logger. Maintaining the internal gas pressure slightly above atmospheric pressure ensures the liquid in the tubing and bladder is always subjected to positive pressure with respect to atmospheric. This increases the hardness of the hydraulic system and preventing the formation of air bubbles in the liquid column. The pressurised system also has the advantage of being isolated from sudden changes in atmospheric pressure.
