Inclinometer Installation Training Course

As with all Geotechnical instrumentation, the accuracy of the installation is critical. In order to achieve good reliable data, the installation must be installed to a certain standard. As monitoring is safety critical and many crucial decisions are based on the data produced, we need to be sure that this data is accurate, reliable and has good repeatability.

Through our ongoing contact with our clients, and the Technical Support given to our products, we found that many companies had been contracted to install inclinometer boreholes, without any real training or experience in this field. As a result of this, many installations were rendered redundant as no reliable data could be obtained.

Acting on this information, Soil Instruments decided to run detailed training courses to help eliminate the problems faced when installing inclinometers. This course has been very well received and the feedback from our clients has been very positive.

The purpose of this training is to give course participants a fuller understanding of the processes
involved in the use inclinometers, from installation of inclinometer casing to data collection and
presentation. With the aim being to maximise accuracy, reduce errors and standardise data presentation.

On completion, each attendee is issued with a certificate and an Inclinometer Field Guide handbook.

The 1 day Inclinometer Training Course consists of:

Inclinometer Overview - applications, internal workings of the sensors, level of accuracy.

Inclinometer Installation - Including types of inclinometer tubing, keyway orientation, grout mixes and installation problems.

Manual data acquisition -‘Best practice’ procedures including temperature stabilisation, maintenance of the probe, and minimising errors.

Data reduction - Types of plotted graphs, correcting errors using the In-Site software and basic data interpretation.

Instrument Calibration – Purpose, process and frequency.

Clients that have attended the course include:

Network Rail, Corus, Geotechnical Engineering and Donaldson Associates.

For full details on this course please email our sales department sales@soil.co.uk

Soil Instruments will be providing training courses for other instrumentation types in the near future.
