Hydraulic Piezometer

The Soil Instruments Hydraulic Piezometer (W2) provides accurate measurement of pore water pressures in rock, fully or partially saturated soils and fill material.

The system comprises a porous ceramic piezometer tip sealed into the measuring horizon and connected to a remote measuring position via twin nylon hydraulically filled tubes, where overall hydraulic pressure may be measured from which pore pressures can be calculated.

Simple device for remotely measuring pore pressures in saturated and partially saturated soils and fill
Reliable and accurate in long term use
Fast response to pressure changes
Inaccuracies due to air entrapment and gas accumulation at the piezometer tip are avoided
Pressure measurement takes place at the terminal location and not within the piezometer tip
Comprises all non-corroding materials
Twin hydraulic tubing is strong, flexible and suitable for long term use
Capable of measuring pore pressures from 2000 kPa to –50 kPa
No electronic components in tip ensures long term reliability
